Art & Lighting
This Master class was about adding the right artwork and lighting to make the room look great. This is a finished design that we love – here’s why it works so well:
Eclectic mix: The room combines different art styles — from black-and-white photography (left wall) to geometric patterns (gold and turquoise artwork), minimalist nature-inspired paintings (above the sofa), and a textured abstract piece (right wall).
Balanced placement: Art pieces are carefully distributed — two vertically stacked frames on the left, a triptych centered above the dark teal curved sofa, and a large abstract painting balancing the right side.
Natural and calm tones: Most artworks lean toward a neutral palette (greys, soft golds, muted blues), reinforcing the calm and sophisticated vibe of the room.
Lighting
Wall sconces: Three modern, minimalistic wall sconces illuminate the artworks, enhancing their presence without overwhelming the space.
Table lamps: Two matching table lamps with white bases and grey shades sit on vintage-style wooden side tables, providing soft, ambient lighting.
Natural light: The added lighting works with the large windows with light beige curtains that let in plenty of daylight, adding warmth and vibrancy to the space.
Accent lighting: A recessed light in the ceiling and subtle indirect lighting also contribute to a cozy, layered lighting scheme.
Decor
A minimalist modern clock and a small wooden wall niche add interest to the center wall.
Neutral-toned rug and coffee table decor (white vases, candle) keep the space cohesive and simple.
The combination of modern minimalism with textured, artistic touches and warm lighting creates a serene, stylish, and inviting living space.
Improvement Suggestions
Although we love this design, there are always ways you can change it to make it better Our suggestions to make the room feel even more cohesive and polished are:
Unify the Artwork Frames
Right now, the frames vary a lot (black, wood, and frameless).
Suggestion: Choose a more consistent frame style — like all light wood or simple black — to create visual harmony across the different art pieces.
Introduce More Textures
The current look is very clean but could use a little more textural variety for depth.
Suggestion: Add a few textured throw pillows (like velvet, boucle, or woven fabric) or a soft knitted throw blanket on the sofa.
Use Layered Lighting
While the sconces and table lamps are lovely, a floor lamp beside the blue armchair or the sofa could add another light source and make the room feel more layered and cozy at night.
Balance the Coffee Table Decor
The coffee table decor is a bit sparse.
Suggestion: Add a stack of two or three beautiful coffee table books next to the vases, or a small green plant to add life and color.
Ground the Rug
The rug works well but could be slightly larger so that it anchors the furniture more completely, especially pulling the blue armchair and sofa closer together visually.
